STAGE RIGHT Asks for Community Help to Take a Flying Leap

STAGE RIGHT of Texas, resident theatre company at the historic Crighton Theatre, is getting ready to take you over the rainbow with their summer production of THE WIZARD OF OZ by L. Frank Baum with music and lyrics by Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg adapted from the motion picture by John Kane. In order to bring a spectacular production to the Crighton stage which will include flying performers, simulated pyrotechnics, and large screen projections STAGE RIGHT is soliciting area businesses and just plain folk to help underwrite the show. The flying costs alone are nearly $6,000. STAGE RIGHT is working with renowned flying company ZFX Flying Inc. known from Broadway to Melbourne for their flying effects. In addition to monetary donations, STAGE RIGHT is looking for the donation of a hotel room for the ZFX flight director while he is on site. We’ll need 2 nights in a local hotel (3 star or above with in-room internet connection included). In exchange for the donation of the hotel stay, STAGE RIGHT will acknowledge the donation in advertising and press releases.

All monetary donations greater than $50 will be acknowledged in the playbill. A special section in the playbill will list all those that helped STAGE RIGHT take a flying leap! We are expecting record crowds for this show and have even added an extra matinee. The playbill for the show will have the potential of reaching over 4,000 area residents. Would you like your business seen as a supporter of local arts? Consider advertising in our playbill (rates include ads for as little as $50 (1/4 pg). Donations will also be acknowledged in our bi-monthly e-newsletter that has a subscriber list of over 12,000. Donations of $1,000 or more will be acknowledged from the stage prior to each performance, in advertising, in the e-newsletter and with 10 tickets to the show. To make a donation, large or small, please send a check to STAGE RIGHT, 234 N. Main St., Conroe, TX 77301, or contact STAGE RIGHT Business Manager Steven Wong at steven.wong@stage-right.org or by calling 832-624-0730.

Why support STAGE RIGHT? By supporting us, you help bring quality affordable family friendly entertainment to the Crighton stage. Your support of us also helps support other area non-profits. As it has been from our very first show, we feel every STAGE RIGHT show is an opportunity for us to recognize a need in the community and then throw a spotlight on a non-profit organization that is helping fill that need. We are ‘spotlighting’ three area non-profits during THE WIZARD OF OZ. Our Toto is a former shelter resident now being fostered with the help of Operation Pets Alive. Operation Pets Alive (OPA) is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization striving to elevate Montgomery County to a No-Kill community through innovative programs that raise community awareness, reduce the number of dogs and cats that enter our shelters and increase the number of dogs and cats that leave our shelters alive. We will have OPA volunteers in the lobby with information about their programs and how you can help OPA and Toto too! Another organization we will have in the lobby during the show is Children’s Safe Harbor. Children's Safe Harbors' mission is to protect and enhance the life of every child who has the courage to battle sexual and physical abuse. Last year during our production of CINDERELLA, we collected journal books for donation. It was such a success that we decided to do it again this year. We hope you’ll bring a journal book that will help aid in the recovery of a child.

We are having a special group join us for a free performance. One of our cast members, Adam O’Connor, is a volunteer at New Horizons, Inc. in New Caney. New Horizons provides work training programs and independent living skills for adults with developmental disabilities (i.e. Down Syndrome, Autism, CP, etc.). Adam’s pal’s at New Horizons are coming to cheer him on in a special preview performance.

Whether you can make a donation to help us or not, we do hope you won’t miss the show. This musical adventure is an adaptation based on the family classic film that made Judy Garland a star for her heartfelt performance as Dorothy Gale, an orphaned young girl unhappy with her drab black-and-white existence on her aunt and uncle's dusty Kansas farm. Dorothy yearns to travel "over the rainbow" to a different world, and she gets her wish when a tornado whisks her and her little dog, Toto, to the magical Land of Oz. With all the classic songs from the movie including “Over the Rainbow,” “We’re Off to See the Wizard,” “If I Were King of the Forest” and “If I Only had a Brain” you’ll be singing along as Dorothy and her friends travel down the yellow brick road!

Performance dates are weekends July 12 – 28 Friday and Saturday nights at 8 pm with three Sunday matinees on July 14, 21 & 28 at 2 pm. Tickets are $20 for adults, $17 for seniors and groups of 20 or more and $15 for kids 16 and under and senior groups. Group tickets are purchased by calling the Crighton box office at 936-441-7469. Tickets can be purchased online at www.stage-right.org . We hope you’ll come over the rainbow with us this summer!
