STAGE RIGHT Announces Auditions for World Premiere Production of MAMA WON’T FLY

STAGE RIGHT of Texas, resident theatre company at the historic Crighton Theatre in downtown
Conroe announces auditions for the world premiere production of MAMA WON’T FLY by
Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten. Auditions will be held at 3 pm Sunday June
12 and 7 pm Monday June 13 and will consist of cold readings from the script. Callbacks will
be at the discretion of the director. Persons wishing to audition should come to the upstairs
rehearsal hall located at 115 Simonton St. (around the corner from the main entrance to the
Crighton Theatre) and bring a headshot and resume if they have one. A gas stipend will be paid
to cast and crew if a profit is made on the show. This production opens STAGE RIGHT’S 2011-
2012 Season of Enchantment. Show dates are Sept. 9-25. Show times are Friday and Saturday
evenings at 8 pm with two Sunday matinees on Sept. 18 and 25 at 2 pm. The show will be
directed by STAGE RIGHT artistic director Carolyn Corsano Wong.

A cast of 2 men and 6 women is sought. Three actresses are sought to portray the leads: Norleen
(Mama) 70s fun loving, energetic, yet overly involved in her children’s lives, Norleen’s daughter
Savannah-feisty, confident in business but unlucky with men 40s and Hayley – loveable, nervous,
very accident prone and the bride-to-be 30-40s. The director is seeking strong character actors
since all but 3 women will portray multiple characters ranging in age from 40 to 90 years. The
story revolves around Savannah trying to get her mother Norleen from Alabama to California
for the wedding of Norleen’s son Walker. The highly unlucky and accident prone bride Hayley
shows up unexpectedly to also make the trip. There’s only one problem: Mama won’t fly. With
only 4 days to make the trip which includes a stop in Texas to visit relatives and numerous
hilarious situations (including a stop in Las Vegas wedding chapel with an ex-stripper as the
minister) the three women experience the ride of their lives and learn a lot about themselves and
each other.

The show will be presented at the historic Crighton Theatre at 234 N. Main Street in downtown
Conroe, TX. Internationally produced and currently recognized as the three most widely
produced comedic playwrights in America, Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten will
be in attendance for opening night on Sept. 9 as well as at an invitation only reception to be held
the night before opening with cast, crew, season subscribers, press and City of Conroe officials.
