13-14 Season

And the 2014 Winner of the Caribbean Cruise is...

Hairspray broke The Wizard of Oz attendance record on the final performance weekend. But that's not what you want to know. What you really want to know is...who won the raffle?

The prize for two lucky folks went to Daniel Guthrie of Conroe, TX. Daniel and whomever he selects will be taking a sedan car thanks to Gulf Coast Limo to Galveston where he will go on an 8 day/7 night cruise to Cozumel, Jamaica, and the Cayman Islands at the end of October. Congratulations to Daniel. Lucky guy. Wish I were going...

If Daniel were at the last performance to claim his prize - which was not a requirement - he could have stayed and had BBQ thanks to Darrel's Catering along with the cast and crew of Hairspray. The brisket and sausage were awesome as usual. We had so many desserts that we will have a hard time getting to sleep. Not a bad way to enjoy a great time with the cast and crew of Hairspray. Until next time...

Hairspray

Hairspray Character Descriptions

Tracy Turnblad ‐ A pleasantly plump teenager with a big heart who has dreams of being a dancing star … as
soon as she's out of detention for her big hair. Tracy isn’t afraid to be herself and stand up for what she believes in.
She must be friendly, relentless, and goodhearted with a vibrant, lovable personality and love to sing and dance.
Tracy is on stage for a LOT of the show so she must have stamina and talent – she performs in 10+ numbers
including “Good Morning Baltimore,” “I Can Hear The Bells,” and many more! It is truly a BIG role! Mezzo‐Belt
Stage Age: 16‐19

Edna Turnblad ‐ Tracy’s kind, plus‐sized mother; runs a laundry business out of her home but hasn't been out in a
while. Played by Harvey Fierstein on Broadway, and John Travolta in the movie, this drag role requires a strong
comic male performer who is ready for his inner woman to take the spotlight Edna is not a man pretending to be a
woman, she is all woman! Just, you know, with a distinctive voice. Performs in 5+ numbers including “You're
Timeless To Me.” Tenor. Stage Age: 40+. Note that the role has been precast.

Opening Weekend for Anything Goes

Over 600 patrons came to the opening weekend of Anything Goes. Critics claimed they had never seen that much dancing on the Crighton stage in 30+ years. Food, flowers, comedy, fantastic singing, tap dancing, and a chance to win a cruise! There is no better way to spend an evening. To see some of the production pictures click here.

Better yet, get your tickets before the S.S. American sails away! If you need a little more encouragement, check out David Dow Bentley's review.

CASA 2014 Gala in the Woodlands

Cast members from The Wizard of Oz were invited to perform at the CASA Child Advocates of Montgomery County 19th Annual CASA Speaks For Kids Gala. The live and silent auctions offered exclusive and exciting unique finds for the hundreds of attendees. By supporting CASA Child Advocates of Montgomery County, we joined the fight against child abuse and neglect in our community.

Stage Right loaned prop and set pieces from The Wizard of Oz to help decorate the hallway. Additionally, we donated prop pieces from the show for the silent auction.

Anything Goes Cruise Raffle

Win a cruise to Mexico, Grand Cayman, and Jamaica! For the next three shows we will be raffling a cruise to Mexico departing from the port of Galveston! Travel to a Caribbean island perched atop a coral reef: Cozumel. Drift among star corals and sea fans on a Cozumel diving excursion or simply kick back on the beach as the turquoise waves roll in. Don't miss the opportunity to explore the ruins of the ancient Mayan city of Tulum, majestically perched above the turquoise Caribbean. Swim with the dolphins or spend the day shopping onshore!

Next is Grand Cayman - a group of three magnificent tropical islands Christopher Columbus called "Las Tortugas" (the turtles) for the sea creatures he found in the ocean water. Among other attractions, visitors to the island will enjoy learning about the turtles, exploring Seven-Mile Beach and enjoying the undersea world.

Last stop is Jamaica where beachcomers can spend time on the white sands and enjoy the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean. Take a leasurely ride in a glass bottom boat and see underwater life without having to snorkel or scuba dive. Visit the spectacular Dunn's River Falls near Ocho Rios, where you can climb 600 feet up from the base of the falls or retreat to the beach where the rushing water exits into the ocean. At Dolphin Cove you can watch the dolphins at play or walk through the jungle to see friendly birds and iguanas.

This eight day, seven night cruise will be awarded to one lucky couple on the last performance of the season (Hairspray - July 27, 2014). Tickets are $5 each or five tickets for $20. You can buy tickets during intermission or purchase tickets online (button at the top). Proceeds will support future Stage Right shows at the Crighton.
