And the 2014 Winner of the Caribbean Cruise is...

Hairspray broke The Wizard of Oz attendance record on the final performance weekend. But that's not what you want to know. What you really want to know is...who won the raffle?

The prize for two lucky folks went to Daniel Guthrie of Conroe, TX. Daniel and whomever he selects will be taking a sedan car thanks to Gulf Coast Limo to Galveston where he will go on an 8 day/7 night cruise to Cozumel, Jamaica, and the Cayman Islands at the end of October. Congratulations to Daniel. Lucky guy. Wish I were going...

If Daniel were at the last performance to claim his prize - which was not a requirement - he could have stayed and had BBQ thanks to Darrel's Catering along with the cast and crew of Hairspray. The brisket and sausage were awesome as usual. We had so many desserts that we will have a hard time getting to sleep. Not a bad way to enjoy a great time with the cast and crew of Hairspray. Until next time...

CASA 2014 Gala in the Woodlands

Cast members from The Wizard of Oz were invited to perform at the CASA Child Advocates of Montgomery County 19th Annual CASA Speaks For Kids Gala. The live and silent auctions offered exclusive and exciting unique finds for the hundreds of attendees. By supporting CASA Child Advocates of Montgomery County, we joined the fight against child abuse and neglect in our community.

Stage Right loaned prop and set pieces from The Wizard of Oz to help decorate the hallway. Additionally, we donated prop pieces from the show for the silent auction.

A big thank you to everyone that came to audition for ANYTHING GOES. Wow! Don't know if the Crighton stage has ever had that many tapping talented feet on it all at one time but you all certainly made director Randy Bianchi job very hard. Well done! If not cast in the show, please consider helping backstage. We are in need sound and light board operators - training provided! We also need folks to help on running crew.

Radio Interview with Cast and Crew of Arsenic and Old Lace

Representatives from the cast and crew of Arsenic and Old Lace went on the radio program Mind Your Business with host Cassandra Roschen to promote the sixth season opener for STAGE RIGHT. The interview featured veteran director Brenda Storseth, film and stage actor Katt Gilcrease, and Carolyn Corsano Wong - Artistic Director for STAGE RIGHT.

Both Katt and Carolyn have performed Arsenic and Old Lace several times around the greater Houston area. So why revisit the play again? While Arsenic and Old Lace is billed as a dark comedy, it is still a classic, family-friendly show that has held its own over the years.

STAGE RIGHT Asks for Community Help to Take a Flying Leap

STAGE RIGHT of Texas, resident theatre company at the historic Crighton Theatre, is getting ready to take you over the rainbow with their summer production of THE WIZARD OF OZ by L. Frank Baum with music and lyrics by Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg adapted from the motion picture by John Kane. In order to bring a spectacular production to the Crighton stage which will include flying performers, simulated pyrotechnics, and large screen projections STAGE RIGHT is soliciting area businesses and just plain folk to help underwrite the show. The flying costs alone are nearly $6,000. STAGE RIGHT is working with renowned flying company ZFX Flying Inc. known from Broadway to Melbourne for their flying effects. In addition to monetary donations, STAGE RIGHT is looking for the donation of a hotel room for the ZFX flight director while he is on site. We’ll need 2 nights in a local hotel (3 star or above with in-room internet connection included). In exchange for the donation of the hotel stay, STAGE RIGHT will acknowledge the donation in advertising and press releases.

All monetary donations greater than $50 will be acknowledged in the playbill. A special section in the playbill will list all those that helped STAGE RIGHT take a flying leap! We are expecting record crowds for this show and have even added an extra matinee. The playbill for the show will have the potential of reaching over 4,000 area residents. Would you like your business seen as a supporter of local arts? Consider advertising in our playbill (rates include ads for as little as $50 (1/4 pg). Donations will also be acknowledged in our bi-monthly e-newsletter that has a subscriber list of over 12,000. Donations of $1,000 or more will be acknowledged from the stage prior to each performance, in advertising, in the e-newsletter and with 10 tickets to the show. To make a donation, large or small, please send a check to STAGE RIGHT, 234 N. Main St., Conroe, TX 77301, or contact STAGE RIGHT Business Manager Steven Wong at or by calling 832-624-0730.

We Want You!

Non-profit organizations such as STAGE RIGHT depend on the kindness of strangers (sound familiar)? Specifically, we cannot run a large show without backstage help (carpenters, set dressers, props, stage crew, lights, sound, costumes, kid wrangling, and more). Our help extends to the front of the house where we need ushers, concessions, and people willing to create and distribute flyers, rack cards, posters, articles, and playbills.

What specific skills do you need? There are only two requirements: the desire to help and to learn. If you don't know how to do something, take the initiative and find out how to do something.

"Mele Kalikimaka" is the Thing to Say...

STAGE RIGHT continues its tradition of bring laughter to the season with "A Christmas Story". We know that the holidays can be stressful. It's nice to be able to relax for a short time. Even better if you and your family can have fun together in a safe, clean, and nothing controversial style.

Every culture has a way to "party" or celebrate. The Hawaiians don't really have a proper Hawaiian phrase for "Merry Christmas" and came up with a phonetic translation that rolled more easily off their tongues. The phrase "Mele Kalikimaka" was popularized in the song by Bing Crosby. Perhaps you remember the song and hopefully it brings a smile to you. Sometimes when you say something familar in a different way you are able to find new meaning or appreciation.

I have to work hard every year to make Christmas special. It's too easy to become jaded by the commercialism of the season. Relax. Take a deep breath. Try yoga. Do a random act of kindness. Forgive someone or tell the you're sorry.

I have delayed my Christmas holidays every year since I can remember so that our extended family can spread a little joy to our patrons in Montgomery County. It's hard work and takes some sacrifice. But nothing is more rewarding than sharing a little joy during this Christmas season. Join us at the Crighton for a A Christmas Story!
